Craig James Interview
May 12, 2004 Making Change Web Exclusive

Interview By: Shula Neuman

The region needn't despair when considering who will come along to head up vital community organizations and to make sure Northeast Ohio grows. As I explained in the story on the new style of leadership (aired May 12, 2004), there are dozens of so-called "young leaders" in the region who are already actively engaged in changing the regions economic development. They operate a little differently than those who've been in the spotlight for the past half-century. They tend to organize their own groups and focus on smaller issues rather than the traditional approach of taking on large projects. There are so many of these new-style leaders that I couldn't include everyone in the radio story. Craig James is one of the people I interviewed for the story who had too much to say to boil down into a sound bite. Craig is the managing partner of Catalyst Strategies, a consulting firm that helps companies and organizations implement strategies for growth. He's also got his hand in so many different activities in Cleveland, that it's hard NOT to consider him a leader. He's mostly known for The Connection Series, an occasional gathering of at least 100 people who have identified several civic issues they want to improve. These people have now split off into groups that are working now on their own to implement change.
