Phil Hart's Top Ten Things You Can Do To
Make Your House Greener
- Plan your home's site orientation
- Place your house so that the sun works as a natural heater;
use plants as sun control.
- Insulate your walls and roof.
- Insulate your windows (double if not triple pane)
- Seal all openings, including the air change system.
- Develop a healthy indoor environment.
- Eliminate mold spores
- Use non-toxic materials and paints
- Use recycled and recyclable building materials
- Install a high efficiency heating/cooling system
- Use a sealed combustion heating units
- Install a CO2 detector
- Allow for natural ventilation.
- Conserve water use
- Flush with a 1.6 gallon water closets
- Bath in low flow showers
- Turn off water when it's not in use
- Install fluorescent lamps and fixtures
And last, but certainly the most important thing you can do...
- Influence your city to adapt sustainable policies.
