Tuesday morning, we'll speak with some of the civic leaders who, rather than fighting a future as a small city, are embracing it. It can make workers take their eye off the ball. Parts of Cuyahoga County resemble a dry lake bed. People are moving out, often times to neighboring counties. The Sound of Ideas: Regionalism in Action

When talk of regionalism heads towards government consolidation, a lot of local municipalities back away from the table - until now. Seven fire departments, from Parma and Brooklyn to Berea, are working on plans to merge. The proposal has near universal support from city council members to rank and file fire fighters. Elsewhere in Cuyahoga County, a group of local mayors is pondering the fiscal savings in a consolidated garbage contract.
