President Bush has nominated New Jersey native and federal appeals court judge Samuel Alito to fill the Supreme Court vacancy being created by the retirement of Sandra Day O'Connor. Alito currently serves as a judge on the Third District Court of Appeals. We'll talk about it with our panel of experts and with the audience.

On Tuesday's ballot you'll see State Issues One, Two, Three, Four, and Five and, depending on where you live, other numbers. For example, Tri-C is asking Cuyahoga County voters for a replacement levy. In Lorain County, Oberlin voters will decide on a living wage law. Ohioans are about to face the biggest changes in the tax and health care landscapes in years. Starting soon, Ohio businesses with gross receipts of more than $150,000 will have to pay the state's new Commercial Activity Tax (CAT). CAT was designed to replace the corporate franchise tax and the tangible personal property tax. Businesses have to register with the state taxation department by November 15th. The approach of a new year is the time many companies are renewing or replacing their health insurance plans; some, for the first time, will offer employees an opportunity to participate in Health Savings Accounts. It's a new way of paying for health care which offers the benefits of a flexible spending accounts combined with more traditional insurance plans. A group of Summit County leaders are pushing a proposal to clear out the smoke in bars and restaurants. But some business owners say a smoking ban would clear out customers. San Francisco has its Golden Gate Bridge; New York has the Brooklyn Bridge; Brasilia, Brazil has the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge. All have a distinctive character that help define the city in which they're located. They're "signature bridges," structures immediately identifiable with their surroundings. Officials in Cleveland are suggesting that we should have a signature bridge, too; and that it should be part of a new I-90 Innerbelt. We'll talk to a planner and to Plain Dealer architecture critic Stephen Litt about the viability of a signature bridge for Cleveland.

The pressure's on Ohio lawmakers trying to understand the complicated biology of cloning and stem cell research. A bill that bans spending state dollars on human cloning and most embryonic stem cell research has gotten the go ahead from the Senate but is stuck now in the House as lawmakers are looking to hear more testimony from scientists and religious groups.
