Lessening Disparities

A person admitted to the hospital for depression often faces higher co-payments and more restrictions than a person going to the hospital with cancer. The U.S. House last week passed a bill that seeks to lessen that disparity. It would require most health plans to offer similar services for mental ailments as they do for physical ones. Representative Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island is one of the sponsors of the House version, and he was in town Friday to give a talk at University Hospitals.
