Over the past two months, The Plain Dealer and online partner cleveland.com began a massive effort to interview, photograph and video 88 Northeast Ohioans whose jobs were swallowed by the cratering economy.
In collaboration with The Plain Dealer, WVIZ/PBS and 90.3 WCPN ideastream® will cover the journey of dozens of the unemployed in Northeast Ohio. They come from all walks of life and all levels of employment. Throughout the year there will be multiple reports, interviews, videos and discussion about their experiences.

On this Monday morning, the beginning of another work week, consider this: roughly one in ten Ohioans is looking for a job. New figures show the state's unemployment rate stands at 9.7% - the highest it's been in more than 25 years. Over the weekend, the Plain Dealer kicked off a major project. For the rest of the year reporters will be following 88 people from Northeast Ohio who are looking for work. WVIZ/PBS and 90.3 WCPN ideastream® are collaborating with the Plain Dealer on the project which will result in multiple reports, videos, discussions and interviews. Deputy Managing Editor Elizabeth McIntyre spoke with ideastream's Eric Wellman about the Help Wanted series.

Labor Secretary Announces Additional Funds for Ohio’s Unemployed

U.S. Labor secretary Hilda Solis today announced nearly 18 million dollars in federal stimulus money to help Ohioans who have recently been laid off.
The funding is in addition to the 88 million dollars for unemployment benefits and retraining announced in Perrysburg Tuesday.

Ohio Unemployment Up Again

Ohio's unemployment rate has gone up for the first time in three months, to 10.5 percent in October from 10.1 percent in September.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says joblessness increased despite slightly more hiring by both services and
goods-producing businesses. Ohio Public Radio's Bill Cohen has more.
